The Cabarfeidh Hotel (our Tripadvisor review)

This is what we said on Tripadvisor about our stay:

Our stay at this hotel was probably the finest experience we have had in a hotel, in the UK or abroad – and we have stayed in a lot of hotels in our time! We didn’t stay for long, only a couple of nights, but it really was a first class experience.

The initial booking via the hotels own website was great and the welcome we received was perfect. We were a bit early, having just got off the ferry from Ullapool, but wanted to freshen up so called in to see if we could drop off our stuff and use their public facilities, but the room was ready and they were happy for us to check in. The room really was everything one would expect of a hotel of this quality. It was clean as a whistle, well laid out and prepared. To pick up on a previous reviewer – yes it was initially a bit warm for us, but the radiator had a thermostat that was easy to operate and the room cooled down to a comfortable temperature. The hotel is being refurbished and we genuinely thought that our room had already been done, but in fact it hadn’t – they look after the place very well. The beds were very comfortable indeed and the triple glazing made the room very quiet. The shower temperature – always a good test of a hotel – was stable and the pressure good.

It wasn’t just the room which was great. The food was lovely too. We didn’t eat dinner here, but the breakfast which was included was perfect and the staff went out of their way to make sure that we got what we wanted. The ambiance of the public areas was warm and welcoming, too. But what really puts this hotel on the very top of a tall pile of good hotels that we’ve stayed at in our lives was the staff. They must have an excellent development programme or terrific managers or a great recruitment and selection process or a simply nice, caring people – probably all of these. All – that’s all – of the staff we met including those from the reception, housekeeping and dining room teams were just great and were all real ambassadors for the place.

The only tiny niggle was a coach party which had to get the early ferry back to Ullapool so breakfasted at 5:00! (If I’d been on that coach trip, I’d have been seriously annoyed at whoever made that decision!) That caused a certain amount of banging about early in the morning, but it was soon over and the soundproofing in the hotel coped pretty well.

Overall a really great experience in a fine hotel. This is one on the “we’ll be back” list! We thoroughly recommend it.
